Expats Identity Crises

Moving to another country can be a life-changing experience. It allows you to explore a different culture, learn a new language, and make new friends. However, it also comes with its own set of challenges. Being far from family and familiar surroundings, dealing with cultural differences, language barriers, and sometimes feeling isolated can take an emotional toll.

When you’ve spent years building a life, developing professionally, and forming social connections, moving can disrupt everything. Your sense of self-reliance may be shaken as your professional, cultural, and social skills may not hold the same value in the new country, leading to feelings of loss and low self-esteem.

Relocating to another country is a personal and complex experience. Even if it doesn’t affect your day-to-day functioning significantly, it can challenge your core beliefs and values. Migration and relocation can intensify existing issues of separation and loss. If these internal conflicts are not resolved, it can result in depression, anxiety, and emotional outbursts.

Through my work in the area of relocation, I meet with groups and individuals either face to face or online. I offer a safe place to observe the complex emotions related to relocation, to recognize what has been lost in order to reconnect with your inner forces, to understand your needs and desires, to strengthen self-confidence and to grow as a result of crisis
